From Nature Walks to Dance Moves: Room 7 Week 1 Highlights

What an exciting start to Term 2 in Room 7!

In Week 1, our students began their learning journey by exploring the world around them. We went on a school walk to observe our surroundings and investigate the features of living and non-living things. Students watched videos, shared ideas in class discussions, and deepened their understanding through real-life observation during the walk.

Students learned about the importance of Anzac Day and why it is remembered in New Zealand and Australia. We discussed the meaning of remembrance, courage, and sacrifice, and talked about how soldiers showed bravery and helped others. Students shared thoughtful ideas and made connections to why it is important to remember the past. They then expressed their understanding through writing, showing respect and empathy in their work.

To wrap up a fantastic first week, we had an energetic dance session with Siva. Students participated enthusiastically, learned new dance moves, and had lots of fun together. A wonderful start to the term with curiosity, creativity, and active learning!

A Joyful Week 9: Aroha Festival and Easter Celebrations

In Week 9, Room 7 was filled with laughter and joy as we celebrated the Aroha Festival. Students participated in different cultural groups, promoting inclusion and appreciation of diversity.

A highlight of the week was making bunny headbands. Students worked enthusiastically, demonstrating creativity while supporting one another.

It was a wonderful week that reflected the values of aroha, fostering kindness, collaboration, and a strong sense of community in the classroom.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Room 7 Writing Focus – Term Highlights

This term in Room 7, our tamariki have been developing their skills in descriptive and recount writing. Each week, they have been building confidence in retelling events and using descriptive language to express their ideas clearly.

In Week 8, I gave the students a real fruit—a banana—to support their descriptive writing. They used their senses to explore its colour, texture, smell, and taste, which helped them create more detailed and engaging descriptions. This hands-on experience encouraged them to make thoughtful word choices and expand their vocabulary.

We also enjoyed Easter Card Making activity. Overall, it has been great to see the progress our tamariki in Room 7 have made in their writing.

Room 7 Learns About Eid 🌙

In Room 7, we have been learning about the special festival of Eid. We talked about how Eid is an important celebration for many people around the world. It is a happy time when families come together, share delicious food, wear beautiful clothes, and show kindness and generosity to others.

To help us connect our learning with art, we did a fun and creative painting activity. Instead of using paintbrushes, we used ear buds and our fingers to paint. It was exciting to try a new way of creating art!

We dipped the ear buds into colourful paint and made tiny dots to create beautiful patterns. The classroom was full of colour, creativity, and smiles. We enjoyed exploring different textures, mixing colours, and expressing our ideas through art. It was also a little messy, which made it even more fun!

This activity helped us learn about Eid in a creative way. We loved sharing our ideas, looking at each other’s artwork, and celebrating our learning together.

Room 7 Digital Learning: Becoming Cyber Smart

Room 7 Digital Learning – Becoming Smart Cyber Learners

This week Room 7 began learning about how to be Smart Cyber during our digital learning time. The students were excited to explore new skills on their iPads.

First, students learned how to crop a photo and add writing to it. They practised choosing a photo and editing it by adding their names. I supported the students as they worked, and they really enjoyed learning how to change and personalise their pictures.

We also created our class site icon on the home screen of our iPads so students can easily open our class site. This will help them quickly access their learning and activities in the future. Room 7 is doing a fantastic job building their digital skills and becoming confident cyber smart learners!

Room 7 Learning About the Festival of Holi

This week, Room 7 explored Holi, the Festival of Colours, celebrated in India. We learned that Holi symbolises happiness, friendship, and the arrival of spring, bringing people together in joyful celebration.

As part of our learning, students took part in creative art activities using bright, vibrant colours. They painted with their fingers and dipped toothbrushes into paint to create fun spray-paint effects on their artwork.

In addition to the art, students completed writing activities, sharing what they had learned about Holi, why it is celebrated, and its cultural significance. This helped connect their creativity with their understanding of the festival.

Room 7 had a wonderful time combining art and writing to explore and celebrate this colourful cultural tradition!

For Valentine’s Day, we made special cards for our loved ones. We designed and decorated each card with care, using hearts, bright colours, and kind messages.

We also enjoyed a fun and energetic Street Racket workshop. We learned new skills, practised teamwork, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the session.

Through all these activities, we have learned so much — from swimming skills and coordination to creativity and kindness. Room 7 had an amazing start to 2026, and we are excited for many more adventures ahead!
